What to sell?
How much of the products sent to Emmy for sale go on sale, and what kind of sales revenue do Emmy sellers receive?

The amount of sales revenue varies greatly between sellers, as the revenue is affected by the brand, condition, quality and, of course, the quantity of the products sold. For some sellers, the monthly sales revenue can be several hundred, for another tens.

Looking at the whole, 70% of all products delivered to Emmy get a new owner through the online store.

Handbags are always easy to sell; leather bags are a top favourite. Brand new clothes sell quickly and are also given as gifts. In order to get a proper profit of your clothes, the original purchase price of the product as new should be more than 30 euros. It is absolutely essential that the products are clean and intact.

There are clothes from several different brands in my closet. How do I know if they are suitable for sale at Emmy?

A good rule of thumb is that we take products for sale which we can expect to sell. So first think about whether the product is one you would like to buy yourself? We have compiled a list of brands we don't accept at the moment. In our experience, there is insufficient demand for these brands or the resale value of the brands is low. List is based on market demand and actual sales, so we update it regularly.

If you can't find the brand you are looking for, you can of course always contact our customer service and ask. We are happy to help!

Please note that we follow the current list when handling the products. So sometimes it can happen that a brand you send for sale has been added to the list only after you have already sent your product for sale. In this case, please contact our customer service.

How do I know if my product is in good or fair condition? In my opinion, it is like new.

You don’t need to know how to determine the condition of your products, we do it for you. Our team of professionals evaluate your products objectively and with the experience of thousands of products. If you have some detailed information about the product, and it affects the resale value of the product, you can let us know in the seller consigment or with a note on the actual product.

If product has a minor fault or a some signs of worn, we rate it as in fair condition and list all causes in the product information. There are also a lot of really good items and true findings among products in fair-condition!

How the selling prices are determined?

Emmy's trained team of product handlers set the best possible price for each product based on the product's brand, condition rating, age and timeliness. We also take into account the price at which similar products have been sold in our online store in the past. You don’t have to price the products but you can, of course, put price requests according to the products or inform their original price.

How do I get my products for sale?
What do I need to do before I can send my products up for sale? Do clothes need to be washed and ironed?

Clothes must be intact, clean and spotless. Washing after use is therefore necessary. Ironing is not a necessity, but of course the general appearence promotes the sale and it looks better in the sales image. We do not iron clothes before they are put on sale, so wrinkles due to packaging may appear in the product images.

Product must have an original brand tag and/ or identifiable brand name attached. For example, naming a child’s clothing is not a barrier to selling.

How do I send my products for sale?

How long does it take before my clothes are on sale in Emmy?

Our team handles thousands of products every week. All products are carefully manually checked, photographed and stored.

We process the products in the order of arrival, taking into account the rhythms of different delivery methods. Normally, the products arrive in the online store about 2–3 weeks after they are shipped. During the campaign periods, many more products arrive on sale than normal, which means that the processing queue may also temporarily stretch for 3–4 weeks. You will be notified by email when your products have arrived.

How do I know when my products are visible in webstore?

You will receive an email notification whenever your products are uploaded for sale. All your products for sale can also be found in your own Emmy account, where you can easily track the sales.

According to the notification I received, my products have been uploaded for sale, but some are missing. Where are the rest?

Sometimes your clothes from one batch can be uploaded in parts. You will receive a notification each time.

Othertimes this may be due to a defect or fault in the product found by the product handler that has resulted in the product being rejected. Contact customer service for information on these products.

Sales revenues
What options do I have for sales revenues?

We pay sales revenues once a month, generally on the last weekday of the month. Renevue of during month will be paid at the end of following month, e.g. product is sold in January, revenue is paid at the end of February. The delay in payments is due to the buyer's 14-day right of return and the time it takes to mail. If a product is returned, we will continue to sell it.

Can I donate my sales revenues?

Sure! Currently, you can donate your sales revenues to charity for SOS Children's Village or Unicef Ry. Mark in the sales referral to which item you want to donate your revenues, and we will forward it to the charity of your choice at the end of your sales period. You will receive an e-mail of the donationed amount.

You can also donate your sales revenues to Emmy. Donated sales revenue is used to develop the sales service and to promote the circular economy.

How can I track and follow my sales?

Why one of my items is not on sale?

The condition of the products is carefully checked, and those that are not suitable for sale because of their brand or condition are excluded from the products to be sold.

A hole in a garment is always a ground for rejection, as is abundant staining, fluff or, for example, darkening in the collars or armpits of the collared shirt. These products are also all reported and you can ask for a list from our customer service.

We deliver products in poor condition and broken for proper textile fiber recycling and non-salable brands for charity.

Why isn't my product selling, even though I think it’s wonderful and still in good condition?

Of course, for a product to be sold, it needs a buyer. Finding the right buyer can happen in an instant or it can take a bit longer. We strive to highlight as many products as possible in marketing and make it easier for buyers to find suitable products through the versatile narrowing and search functions.

What happens if my products are not sold?

The products have a shelf life of 6 months, and most of the products on sale will find a new home during that time. Unsold products can eventually be donated to charity. We donate intact and clean clothes to VVA - Vailla Vakinaista Asuntoa ry, Hope - Combined and Jointly ry, SPR's Kontti stores, Helsinki Deaconess Institute, Pääkaupunkiseudun Kierrätyskeskus Oy and other local charities.

If you wish, we will send back your unserviceable products immediately after processing and the unsold ones at the end of the sales period. Return price in Finland and Estonia is € 10 + postage € 5.90 per shipment. Before putting it up for sale, think about whether you want the unsold items back or not. The selection is made on the seller consigment for both choices separately. The choice is binding, meaning it cannot be changed later, as we process products returned to sellers through a different process than those that go to charity.

Why sell at Emmy when I could sell myself?

If you need an effortless way to sell, Emmy offers excellent help. There is often a huge amount of work involved in photographing, selling, and mailing – especially if you want to get rid of a larger batch of clothes, shoes, and bags.

Many also prefer to buy through a company for safety and ease, and not necessarily directly from an individual, as all products are inspected and multi-vendor products can be combined in the same order. So you are likely to get a larger potential buyer base and a shorter sales time for your products through us.

Selection, product information and condition rating
What should I do when I am interested to buy a certain product, but I am not yet sure if it is suitable or I need it. For example, can I book a product?

Thousands of new products go on sale at Emmy every week, so our selection is constantly changing. With the exception of mostly outlet items, the products are single pieces, i.e. very rarely are several pieces of the same product available in the same size. The most coveted brands are often sold very quickly right after release. Therefore, it is worth taking the opportunity immediately if the selection includes a product that you like and need.

After receiving the package, you have a 14-day return policy, so you can fit the product at home in peace. The product must be returned in the same condition as it was at the time of sale. We charge a return fee equal to the order’s original shipping cost (typically 12,90 €) / return shipment. The return fee is deducted from the refund amount. If the price of the returned item(s) is less than the return fee, no money will be refunded. The return fee's purpose is to cover some of the incurred shipping and handling costs.

Due to the huge number of products, we cannot report all the features or dimensions of the products in the product information, so for example, shoes can be best tested by fitting. If any of the product information you need is missing, our customer service will be happy to help.

It is currently not possible to reserve products in our store.

Of course, we hope our customers make informed purchases and avoid unnecessary returns. Thus, together we reduce the environmental impact of transporting goods back and forth.

What product information is available?

We write down as much information about the products as possible to make it easier to buy, e.g. dimensions, materials, fabric quality and pattern. However, sometimes the information is no longer in the product itself, so we cannot tell the material in more detail, for example.

The dimensions are taken from the garment set on a table and do not take into account, for example, the elongation of the material. It is therefore worth comparing the dimensions primarily to your current garments, which are of the same type and material.

How well can I trust the condition rating?

The condition is inspected and rated by Emmy's trained and experienced team with objective eyes. We carefully inspect each product and strive to write down all factors that affect products condition rate. There are also real gems among the products classified as fair-condition!

New: The product is pre-owned but its condition is new. The product still has product and/or price tags attached. Like new: The product is pre-owned. The product's condition is as good as new. Product and price tags have been removed. There are no signs of use. The product may be labeled with owner's name. Good: The product is pre-owned. The product is in a good condition: there is no dirt, stains, pilling or other significant wear. The product may be labeled with owner's name. Fair: The product is pre-owned. The product may show some pilling, wear or slight stains. Details of the condition are mentioned in product description. The product may be labeled with owner's name. Please note that some product descriptions may not be available in English.

Payment and shipping
What payment methods are available?

You can pay your order via most common credit cards, PayPal and Emmy gift card.

  • Accepted credit cards Visa, Mastercard, American Express: payment receiver is Emmy Clothing Company Oy.
  • PayPal: You can either pay from yoyr PayPal account or allow PayPal to withdraw monay from your card.
  • Emmy gift card: You can buy gift cards from our webstore. You can buy them for yourself and for someone else. Emmy-sellers can also choose to get their sales renevues piad to Emmy gift card.
Can I use two discount codes for the same order at the same time? Can I use a discount code and a gift card at the same time?

You can only use one discount code per order. Instead, you can use a gift card and a discount code at the same time – just enter the gift card code first and then the discount code.

How much are the shipping costs and how long is the delivery time?

Can I choose where my order is delivered?

We deliver to the address given on the order. You can type different address for customer information (payment) and delivery.

How can I change a product?

Because almost all of the products sold at Emmy are single pieces, it is not possible to change the product to another size or color, for example. However, you can return the product and choose a refund for the Emmy gift card and use the gift card to purchase another product to replace it. Choosing refund as Emmy giftcard is free of charge. Fill out the return form and return the product within 14 days of receiving.

Can I return my purchases?

We give our customers 14 days return period for all pre-owned and new items counting from the date of receiving the order. Returning is simple – please read this guide and then start by filling in the online returns form.
