Emmy and Sokos make clothing recycling as easy as bottle returns – sales boxes are coming to Prismos in the Helsinki metropolitan area
Second-hand fashion pioneer Emmy and Sokos are bringing clothing recycling into everyday shopping trips. Emmy’s sales boxes have now been introduced in five Prismos in the Helsinki metropolitan area, allowing customers to drop off used clothes for sale as easily as returning bottles.
Thanks to this new initiative, customers no longer need to make a separate trip to a flea market or pack items for shipping – you can conveniently drop your sales batch into the box during your regular shopping trip.
"We have had extremely positive experiences with the sales boxes placed in Prismos in Tampere – they have truly made clothing recycling easy and lowered the threshold for customers to participate in more responsible consumption," says Emmy’s CEO Sienna Kruk.
The sales boxes also support the previous collaboration between Sokos and Emmy.
"The boxes are an excellent complement to the Emmy stores operating in our Sokos department stores. At best, a piece of clothing completes a full circle: a customer-owner living in the Helsinki metropolitan area buys a product new from Sokos, brings it to Emmy for resale, and eventually it ends up back for sale at the Sokos Helsinki department store. This beautifully illustrates our message: when you buy something new from Sokos, the product also has good resale value as a used item," says HOK-Elanto’s Sokos Emotion chain director Anna Vahteri.
Emmy has three brick-and-mortar stores located in Sokos department stores in Helsinki, Tampere, and Turku. In Helsinki, the second-hand sections are on the 2nd floor in the women’s department and on the 4th floor in the men’s department. All products delivered to Emmy are inspected, priced, and photographed at Emmy’s product processing center in Lohja. There, expert staff select the most suitable sales channel for each item – either Emmy’s online store or a physical store.
The new Emmy sales boxes will be available at the following Prismos:

- Prisma Itäkeskus
- Prisma Malmi
- Prisma Olari
- Prisma Viikki
With these new sales boxes, the accessibility of Emmy’s service in the Helsinki metropolitan area will increase significantly, making clothing recycling easier than ever before.
